Sammanfattning / Abstract
Within the "Objective 6 Programme" of the European Community about 40 cases of local development and networks were studied in the wood manufacturing sector in Sweden, with a focus on small enterprises. The results are presented in three reports. In this second report eleven local and regional development projects are described and analysed.

Five of these projects are broad-aimed, with the general objective to strengthen the competitiveness of the wood manufacturing enterprises and to create employment. Six of the projects have more narrow objectives e.g. development of products, educational resources, or production systems. In all cases there is the underlying objective to create lasting processes and structures of development.

For each case the progress of the project related to presence or absence of success factors known from previous research in this area was analysed. Important success factors are - especially in the broad-aimed projects: time, money and patience; fiery spirits among the enterprises, not only the project leaders; stronger/larger enterprises as locomotives; geographic proximity; external supporters. The critical mass in various types of projects is discussed.

Several of these local and regional development projects have become more permanent development structures.
