Sammanfattning / Abstract
Within the "Objective 6 Programme" of the European Community about
40 cases of local development and networking were studied in the wood manufacturing
sector in Sweden, with a focus on very small enterprises. The results are
presented in three reports. In this first report we presented a taxonomy
in the problem area, review relevant theories and present models for description
and analysis of the cases.
Some of the local/regional development projects are broad-aimed, with
the general objective to strengthen the competitiveness of the enterprises
and to create employment. Other local development projects have more narrow
objectives e.g. development of products, educational resources and production
systems.
Strategic networks are divided into development networks and business
networks.
In development networks the enterprises co-operate in upgrading
their resources and capabilities - products, technology, quality, skill,
production efficiency, information system etc.
Business networks are groups of enterprises co-operating in marketing,
sales, purchases, production etc. Most of the business networks are
mainly horizontally oriented, operating in the same link of the production
chain, e g joineries. Some are vertically oriented, embracing several links
of the production chain, from the forest to the customer using the end
product.
